Scape04 is that game, with the 2004 content left exactly as it was. What HAS changed is everything that made 2004 annoying to play. We've added the quality-of-life features RS picked up over the years, drawn in 2004's own art style so nothing looks out of place.
It's completely free. No donations, no store, nothing for sale, ever.

The game in its own window, built for playing (and AFKing) properly:
Desktop alerts when your character stops doing anything, your Hitpoints get low, you run out of Prayer, a minute before the idle logout, when you're logged out, and (optionally) when someone private messages you. The taskbar button stays lit until you look, like RuneLite.
Guides beside the game: Hiscores, Quest Guides, Skill Guides, Skill Calculators, Item and NPC Databases, World Map and News open right next to the game
Full speed in the background (browsers slow a game tab down when you look away; the client doesn't)
Saved logins, encrypted on your PC
Screenshot button, plus automatic screenshots when you level up (or only at 99)
Auto Sizing, 1x, 2x or 3x, Pixel or Smooth scaling, and Always on top
Updates itself, and it's the same game as the browser. It never plays for you.

🔍 INSPECT ANY PLAYER
One of the features I'm proudest of. Right-click anyone → Inspect and see exactly what they're wearing, on a slowly turning model of their character. It's laid out like RS3's equipment view but built entirely from 2004 pieces. Hover any item for its name.

Everything is made from this server's own game files, so it matches the 2004 game exactly (no guessing from a modern wiki):
❓ QUICK FAQ
Is it really free? Yes. Nothing is for sale, no donations, no "premium". Members' content is open to everyone.
How do I make an account? There's no sign-up page. Type the name and password you want on the login screen, and if the name is free, the account is made for you.
Do I need the client? No. The browser version is the full game. The client adds alerts, the side panel and the other extras.
Is the client safe? It just shows the game's own web page, plus the extras above. It's unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen asks once: More info → Run anyway.
What about bots? The server watches for scripted clicking and other bot signs, and real people review anything it flags.
Is this affiliated with Jagex? No. Scape04 is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project. RS is a trademark of Jagex Ltd.
